About Us
Honoring a Devoted Husband, Father, and Friend
Welcome to the George “Rocky” Mason III Memorial Fund! This fund was established in the spring of 2019 to honor the life of Rocky Mason and to continue his legacy of generosity, service, and strong work ethic. Our mission is focused on rewarding assertive and goal-oriented individuals with scholarship opportunities that will promote and encourage the advancement of education. In partnering with the Hazelwood School District’s PTA Council, our yearly goal is to award scholarships to four high school seniors who display academic achievement and a commitment to serving others. We are proud to give back to the same community Rocky lived and worked in for so many years. In addition, we have also established the “Overcoming Hardship” scholarship fund that offers annual academic scholarships to deserving students that have maintained scholastic achievement, service, a strong work ethic, and leadership qualities in the face of hardship. Your donations will allow us to award more scholarships to students while keeping the George “Rocky” Mason III Memorial Fund alive for years to come!
About Rocky
George Riley Mason, III, who was affectionately known as “Rocky”, was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was one of four children of George and Gwendolyn Mason, Jr. He attended Louisville Jefferson County Public Schools, graduated from Ahrens High School, and later attended secondary education at Eastern Kentucky University where he walked on the college basketball team. Following a career in the airline industry, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he worked for a major airline for 30 years. He later joined the Hazelwood School District as a Lead Security Officer, contributing heavily to the safety and well-being of the Hazelwood community, where he made the most impact on those whose paths he crossed. Contributing over 45 years to the workforce, he demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout his entire life. He was a Christian and active member of Grow-2-Go Christian Church, where he served as pastoral assistant. Married for nearly 40 years, he was a father of 5 and grandfather of 13. Rocky enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching live sports and was a huge movie buff. He was the life of the party lighting up the room with his big, huge smile, loud voice, and friendly personality. A friend to many and an enemy to none. He was a gentleman, always opening doors and willing to assist and was well-groomed and always dressed to impress. He was famous for saying many quotes and despite leaving us too soon, he most definitely lived up to one of his favorite sayings, “I’m blessed and highly favored”!
