About Us

Honoring a Devoted Husband, Father, and Friend

Welcome to the George “Rocky” Mason III Memorial Fund!

Established in the spring of 2019, this fund honors the life and legacy of Rocky Mason by continuing his tradition of generosity, service, and an unwavering work ethic. Our mission is to empower assertive, goal-oriented individuals by providing scholarship opportunities that support educational advancement.

In partnership with the Hazelwood School District’s PTA Council, we strive each year to award scholarships to four high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to serving others. We take great pride in giving back to the same community where Rocky lived and worked for so many years.

Additionally, we have established the “Overcoming Hardship” scholarship fund, which provides annual academic scholarships to students who have exhibited perseverance, scholastic achievement, service, leadership, and a strong work ethic in the face of adversity.

Your generous donations enable us to continue awarding scholarships and ensure the George “Rocky” Mason III Memorial Fund thrives for generations to come. Thank you for helping us honor Rocky’s legacy and invest in the future of our students!

About Rocky

George Riley Mason III, affectionately known as “Rocky,” was born in Louisville, Kentucky, as one of four children to George and Gwendolyn Mason Jr. He attended Louisville Jefferson County Public Schools, graduated from Ahrens High School, and later pursued higher education at Eastern Kentucky University, where he walked on to the college basketball team.

After beginning a career in the airline industry, Rocky moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he dedicated 30 years to a major airline. Following his tenure in aviation, he joined the Hazelwood School District as a Lead Security Officer, playing a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Hazelwood community. It was in this role that he made the greatest impact, touching the lives of countless students and staff.

With over 45 years in the workforce, Rocky exemplified an unwavering work ethic. He was a devout Christian and an active member of Grow-2-Go Christian Church, where he served as a pastoral assistant. A devoted husband of nearly 40 years, he was a loving father to five children and a proud grandfather of 13.

Rocky found joy in spending time with family and friends, watching live sports, and indulging in his love of movies. Known for his infectious energy, booming voice, and radiant smile, he had an uncanny ability to light up any room. A true gentleman, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, open a door, or offer a kind word. Well-groomed and impeccably dressed, he carried himself with confidence and grace.

Famous for his many memorable sayings, Rocky left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Though he left us too soon, he lived fully and embodied one of his favorite expressions:

“I’m blessed and highly favored!”
